What is steel structure process?

Steel structure process is a broad term that covers the various steps involved in transforming steel from a raw material to a finished product that can be used for construction or other purposes. Some of the main steps are:

  • Steelmaking: This is the process of producing steel from iron ore and other materials. There are two main methods of steelmaking: the blast furnace/basic oxygen furnace (BF/BOF) route and the electric arc furnace (EAF) route. The BF/BOF route uses iron ore, coke, and limestone to produce molten iron, which is then converted into steel by blowing oxygen into it. The EAF route uses scrap steel and electricity to melt and refine steel.

  • Fabrication: This is the process of cutting, bending, welding, and assembling steel components into various shapes and sizes. Fabrication can be done at a steel mill or at a separate facility. Fabricators use design drawings, specifications, and standards to produce the required steel products.

  • Erection: This is the process of installing and connecting the fabricated steel components at the construction site. Erectors use cranes, bolts, welds, and other methods to lift and join the steel members. They also use temporary supports and safety measures to ensure stability and prevent accidents. Erection requires coordination with other trades and disciplines involved in the project.
