Job Description
Lanying Steel Buildings seeks a Structural Design Engineer to join its growing technical team. The primary responsibility of the Structural Design Engineer is to provide structural designs of pre-engineered metal buildings, to support technical team and other Allied teams with engineering guidance, and to participate in the development of technical design policies, practices and initiatives. The role directly impacts productivity, efficiency, lead times, costs, team development and client satisfaction. The position requires strong technical ability and communication skills. This position reports to the Technical Operation Manager and can be remotely located or onsite in the Dominica office.

Responsibilities:
· Provide neat, accurate, clear designs and notes that meet code and project requirements and manufacturing constraints
· Provide project designs that result in cost effective erectable building systems that meet project requirements and company procedures and standards
· Maintain required schedules and priorities when changes or additions occur
· Value engineering to achieve cost effective design solutions
· Review any modifications or changes that may occur to the original design and update accordingly
· Communicate needs and difficulties to all members of the team to assure quick disposition of problems
· Continually improve productivity, accuracy and ability and expand engineering knowledge
· Remain current in knowledge and proficiency in the use of AISC and AISI material specifications, current editions of ASCE 7, IBC, and MBMA
· Protect the public by employing sound engineering judgment without being overly conservative in the approach
· Adept at interpreting codes in a common sense manner and comfortable utilizing exemptions and exceptions that apply to PEMB’s
· Work with the Technical Operations Manager to develop Allied production design standards
· Provide certification with seal and signature on Allied permit or construction documents when orders are in states where the candidate holds a professional engineering license
· Willingness to add professional licenses in states not yet licensed
· Must possess the ability to keep an open mind and search for creative solutions to complex issues
· Check the work, train and mentor team members and junior engineers as needed
· Review technical accuracy of the team’s work
· Provide technical requirements for design tool development and maintenance
· Research building code changes and lead the effort in changing our design approach accordingly
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
· Licensed Professional Engineer
· Minimum of 5-years metal building design experience or related field
· Experience with MBS design software
· Must be able to analyze high complexity projects outside of MBS
· Extensive Design experience on medium and high complexity buildings
· Extensive knowledge with current building code requirements
· Fluent understanding of seismic design of metal buildings and steel structures
· Understand both manufacturing process and fabrication techniques of products
· Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings
· Ability to manage several overlapping projects
· Ability to multi-task and set priorities in a fast-paced working environment
· Must be self-motivated, creative and have the ability to learn and adapt
· Must be able to work in a team environment
· Problem solving and critical thinking skills
· Bilingual in English is a plus
